Welcoming a newborn into your family is a moment filled with joy and wonder. Capturing those first days through photography creates lasting memories you will cherish forever. If you have booked a newborn photography session, knowing what to expect can help you feel prepared and relaxed. This guide walks you through the entire process, from planning to the final moments in the studio, so you can focus on enjoying this special time.

Planning Your Newborn Session
Before the session, we will have a conversation about your expectations and preferences. This includes discussing the style of photos you like, any specific poses you want, and whether you want to include props or family members such as parents and siblings.
Session length: Typically lasts two to three hours. This allows plenty of time for feeding, changing, soothing, and posing without rushing.
Timing: Sessions are scheduled in the morning, around 10:00 to 10:30 AM. Babies tend to be sleepier and more cooperative during this time, which helps capture peaceful, sleepy poses.
Location: All sessions take place in my home studio in Tanki Leendert, where I create soft, warm images using lighting designed to replicate natural daylight.
Preparing for the Session
To help your baby settle comfortably during the shoot, it is best to feed them before arriving or as soon as you get to the studio. Feeding helps calm the baby and makes it easier to pose them safely.
While your baby feeds, we can review styling details together, such as:
Which props to use
Wrap colors and textures
Clothing options for family members
What to Bring
You only need to bring a few essentials:
Diapers and wipes
A pacifier (if your baby uses one)
A blanket for comfort
Two bottles of milk (breast milk or formula)
Babies should arrive wearing only a diaper. This allows us to capture their tiny details and natural beauty, either unclothed or wrapped in soft fabrics.
What Happens During the Session
Newborn photography sessions are designed to be calm and unhurried. Here’s what you can expect during the shoot:
Gentle posing: Your baby will be carefully and safely positioned in various poses that highlight their delicate features.
Breaks as needed: We take breaks for feeding, soothing, or changing diapers. The session’s length allows for these pauses without pressure.
Use of props: The studio is fully equipped with a variety of newborn props such as buckets, furs, wraps, and blankets. These add texture and interest to the photos.
Family photos: If parents or siblings are included, simple, light, and comfortable clothing is recommended. Family photos with toddlers are taken first while they are fresh and cooperative.
Toddler care: Because sessions can be long, arranging a pick-up for toddlers after family photos helps keep the environment calm and focused on the newborn.
Tips for a Smooth Session
Plan your day without other appointments. Newborn sessions require patience and cannot be rushed. A relaxed schedule helps everyone stay calm.
Dress comfortably. Parents and siblings should wear simple, light-colored clothing that won’t distract from the baby.
Bring comfort items. A favorite blanket or pacifier can help soothe your baby.
Stay flexible. Babies can be unpredictable. Trust the process and allow time for breaks and adjustments.
Why Choose a Home Studio Session
The home studio in Tanki Leendert offers a warm, intimate setting with natural light that enhances the softness of newborn photos. Unlike busy commercial studios, this environment feels cozy and personal, helping your baby feel secure.
The studio’s props and equipment are carefully selected to create beautiful, timeless images. You can expect a calm atmosphere where your baby’s safety and comfort are the top priority.
Capturing your newborn’s earliest days is a precious experience that deserves time and care. By understanding what to expect during your session, you can prepare yourself and your baby for a relaxed and enjoyable photo shoot. Remember, these moments are fleeting, and the photos will become treasured keepsakes for years to come.
