Praparing for your session

Get lots of rest the night before, stay hydrated during the day

Plenty of sleep the night before a shoot helps reduce the chance of dark circles under the eyes, and improves the smoothness of the skin, overall. Also, portrait shoots aren’t very long, but it’s still a smart idea to drink plenty of water, especially if your shoot will be outdoors on a hot day.

Decide on your “style” in advance

Your hair, makeup and clothing can really add (or detract) a lot from a shoot. There are lots of ways to approach your style – you can choose to just “be who you are” and show up dressed like you’re always dressed, you can dress up a little or a lot, you can do it up big and go all out – but make sure  you’ve decided in advance, so you aren’t rushing around the day of the shoot, trying to throw everything together. If there will be several of you in the shoot, and you’re going for a look that ties  you all together, then consider wearing matching colors. Not matching outfits – if you all wear the same shirts and pants, you start to really blend in and lose individuality – but instead, consider similar hues – everyone wears blue, for example, but not all the same shade. Be careful here, though, because it’s still important to make sure the shades of blue are complimentary to one another. Another idea is to follow a theme – nautical, military, funny hats, etc.

Make sure you’re happy with the photographer’s style, as well

If you’ve chosen lotjesbabyphotography.com to do your portraits, it’s probably because you like the fact that I shoot and pose but also love to capture natural poses where you are– laughing, smiling and enjoying yourself. Make sure you’ve researched your photographer well and understand what type of photos they’re best at and if it matches your style. Please revisit my gallery to get an idea ;-)

Plan ahead

Choose your outfits in advance and have them ready the night before – pressed, ironed, clean. Make sure you know how to get to the photoshoot location – be aware of traffic conditions. Bring bottled water, light snacks and, bring comfortable shoes to change into. It doesn’t hurt to bring extra  everything – makeup, shoes. If you are at a beach scenary make sure to bring extra clothes and a towel.

When arriving at the location Please be on time!

The sun will not wait for us and we want the session to be relaxed and not rushed. Being on time gives us the time to know each other and the kids. When you arrive early at the session please wait in the car before taking your children out. Children get tired very easily and we want them fit and clean for the photo session.
